Applications are welcome from applicants eligible for a Danish PhD program (on 3+5, 4+4, and 5+3 models). Eligibility Criteria for DDSA PhD Fellowship Call 2026

Applications are welcome that combine outstanding data science qualifications, passions, creativity for research, and the desire to engage with the community of data science. DDSA welcomes applications irrespective of gender, age, ethnicity, race, nationality, disability, or religion.
The Candidate – As mentioned earlier that the applicants need to have a well-defined project proposal along with an agreement with a principal supervisor at a Danish university, and that the candidates/applicants will enroll in the related PhD school before 15^th December 2026.
Applicants Holding a Master’s Degree (the 5+3 PhD Model) – They can apply for a DDSA PhD Fellowship based on a 2-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) in addition to their bachelor’s degree program (180 ECTS points), or equivalent. If by the time of application submission, the applicants have not yet finalized their master’s degree, they have to provide a statement from their master’s thesis supervisor.
Applicants without a Master’s Degree (the 4+4 and 3+5 PhD Models) – They can apply based on their bachelor’s degree program, and if they can integrate their master’s degree and PhD education (the so-called 4+4 and 3+5 PhD models). If they have not so far finalized their bachelor’s degree by the application submission time, they need to provide a statement from their bachelor’s thesis supervisor.
The applicants must possess a high-level proficiency in both oral and written English.
The Research Project – The research project needs to be laced with a strong data science component concerning basic theoretical data science research, innovative applications of data science, and/or development of new data science methods and technologies to generate the latest important insights.
The Supervisor(s) – Those who are interested in applying need to have a support letter from a principal supervisor who holds a position as an associated professor or professor (or equivalent) at a Denmark university and conducts research within the field of their PhD project.

Funding Availability

As the DDSA PhD Fellowship Call 2026 has been announced, it comes with significant funding attached to this fellowship. This fellowship is a fixed individual. The offered fellowship amount (DKK 1,900,000 + 5% administrative cost, amounting to a total sum of DKK 1,995,000) is expected to cover 3 years of tuition fee, salary, external stay as well as related travel and operational costs.

It is worth noting that the fellowship could only be used for a particular project applied for. In case the total cost of the PhD project exceeds the granted fixed amount, the additional costs will be expected to be covered by the host institution. DDSA does not provide funding to industrial PhD programs, and also does not offer co-funding or funding for students who are already enrolled at a PhD school.

Employment will be 3-year duration at the university or research institution where the students are enrolled and where the project is going to be carried out, unless otherwise agreed with DDSA. During the employment period, the doctoral (PhD) students will be offered a monthly salary for which they are enrolled in the doctoral degree (PhD program).

Closing Date for Applications

The last date for application submission is 4^th March 2026. It is advised to apply as early as possible.
