Duration of the Programme

The length of the scholarships for early-career researchers in Sweden (African Scholarship Programme) is a 90-day (3 months) stay for the candidates. It must be noted that the majority of the academic institutions, including the Nordic Africa Institute in the Nordic countries, are closed or at least running at a reduced capacity during the periods, i.e., 15^th June to 15^th August and 15^th December to 15^th January. It is thus advised to the candidates not to select these periods for their visit.

The research topic needs to be within the fields of social sciences and humanities, and with a primary focus on contemporary Africa. Candidates are required to be full-time staff members at an African University or research center, pursuing a PhD (doctoral) degree, and they do not have any kind of financial assistance for their PhD programs from an international scholarship or project

Substance allowance (400 SEK) per day
Installation grant (2,500 SEK)
Access to a workspace, including a desk computer in a shared office at NAI
The maximum stay is 90 days, and the minimum is 60 days

Note: The substance allowance will be offered to the recipients only for the days spent in Uppsala.
