Role Summary for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change – Associate

TBI is on its way to finding an Associate to join its growing America’s practice and play a pivotal role in shaping its regional strategy by driving organizational growth and maximizing the organization’s impact across the region.

The Associate who is hired will be based in Washington, DC, and will primarily be dedicated to the regional team, but will also be required to provide short-term support to the organization’s in-country advisory teams when required or needed. Being an active part of the regional team, the Associate will contribute to strategic planning, cross-program coordination, business development, and thought leadership as well as Washington DC-based client and stakeholder-facing engagements, including providing logistical and content support for TB-hosted occasions/events.

Responsibilities of the Associate

It is a full-time job that includes the following responsibilities.

  • Providing support to the development and execution of the Americas strategy, including regional planning, frameworks for prioritizing opportunities, and investment decisions across all of our regions, including Latin America, the Caribbean, and potentially the United States and Canada soon
  • Making contributions to the entire coordination and strategic operations of the Americas DC office, including supporting regional partnerships, organizing events, managing knowledge-sharing initiatives, and developing reports
  • Designing and producing analysis, high-quality research, written briefings, slide decks, thought pieces, and other materials for external stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Innovating and developing tools such as frameworks, dashboards, and trackers to support effectual management and delivery across country programs
  • Providing support to in-country teams on the latest or present engagements, including short-term deployments to assist with policy development, strategy, or implementation efforts
  • Playing an integral and active part in scoping opportunities and preparing collateral for business development, including proposals and presentations for potential government partners
  • Providing assistance to the startup and incubation phase of the latest and new initiatives until in-country capacity is developed or established
  • Joining or participating in internal practice communities

Eligibility Criteria for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change – Associate

The ideal candidate for the position is the one who is exceptional with experience in developing strategies and methodologies, advisory work, or public policy for the public sector, and can interact with senior leaders and clients professionally with credibility. Individuals with a higher level of enthusiasm, humor, resilience, adaptability, and a can-do attitude are required. Other criteria include the following.

  • Applicants should possess 3 to 5 years of work experience in policy, management consulting, and/or strategy, or delivery for an international or governmental organization
  • They should have a strong research experience and qualitative and quantitative analysis of data and policy, with the ability to find and synthesize related information sources and write with impact and clarity
  • The applicant has to be a self-motivated and proactive individual having a passion for achieving impact, and can work independently and take ownership of the projects
  • The individual will be working in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment by handling multiple diverse workstreams simultaneously, where the maintenance of the ability to prioritize is needed.
  • The individual should believe in technology and innovation
  • Being an effective team player is what is required. Performance in a start-up atmosphere is needed
  • Knowledge of software programs like Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint is required. The individual should be willing to learn new tools and applications
  • Should be fluent in English and Spanish
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the Americas region required – sometimes on short notice. The individual can be deployed for periods of time in countries where TBI has its programs
